Two men were busted in Borrowdale with approximately 4 million US dollars and about 100kgs of gold.
Acting on a tip off, ZRP officers pounced on the due in Borrowdale. Police spokesman Suprintendent Paul Themba Nyathi confirmed the development. He explained that the funds the men where found with where confiscated and taken to the reserve bank.
The money and gold were stashed in suitcases and cash comprised $100, $50, $20 and $10 notes.
It is not clear if the men are gold buyers as gold sellers to Fidelity Printers and Refiners also get 70% of their total sales in US$.
With cash shortages looming in the country most people are not taking their hard currency to the bank as they risk not getting it back or getting it in paltry $30 from various banks. The men were not arrested and police are investigating. More details to follow….
