MMCZ appoints Muzenda CEO

Former Deputy Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Tongai Muzenda has been appointed general manager of the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ).

Mr Muzenda’s appointment is with effect from today.

MMCZ corporate communications executive Ms Pretty Musonza confirmed the appointment to The Herald last night.

“The MMCZ board is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Tongai Muzenda as general manager effective today, 1 February 2019.

“Tongai is no stranger to the mining industry, having served in various capacities at Anglo-American’s Zimbabwe Alloys,” said Ms Musonza.

Born on August 11, 1965, Mr Muzenda takes over from former acting general manager Mr Richard Chingodza, who has left the firm.

Mr Muzenda is former Gutu West legislator and was appointed Deputy Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare in 2013.

He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Zimbabwe and a Master’s in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa. During his time at the University of Zimbabwe, he was appointed secretary for economics for the Students’ Representative Council between 1986and 1987.

The MMCZ was established through an Act of Parliament (MMCZ Act Chapter 21:04) and began operations in March 1983.

It is 100 percent owned by Government and falls under the ambit of the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development.
