Gold buyers form Association, a first in Zimbabwe

Due to the increasing concerns over gold smuggling and leakages, gold buyers in the country have created the “National Gold Buyers Association” aimed at improving gold production and deliveries to Fidelity Printers and Refiners to achieve the President’s vision for the gold subsector achieve US$4 BILLION by 2023.

The Association which was formed on Thursday at Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) gold buyers breakfast meeting has seen Pedzisai “Scott” Sakupwanya elected the interim Chairperson of the Association, Raj Skorus as the Treasury General while Johane Sithole a.k.a Mrasta elected Secretary-General.

The chairperson Mr. Scott Sakupwanya said his association was going to work with all gold buyers across the country and ensure that all buyers are taking their productions to the country’s sole gold buyer and exporter (FPR).

Scott said his National Gold Buyers Association was going to work with the government to eradicate gold buyers who were smuggling the yellow metal out of the country at the same time prejudicing miners of their hard-earned production.

“We are hoping that the prices all over the country would be at par, as this will eradicate unscrupulous buyers,” Scott said.

Treasurer General Raj Skorus said the formation of the Association was the first step towards the eradication and elimination of confusion, leakage sponsored competition and the prejudicing of the small scale and artisanal miners by buyers who offer unreasonable prices. He also said that the quality of communication and buyers community was going to improve.

“The first thing we want is solidifying good network place, avoiding any confusion and inside sort competition. The idea behind this Association is not only to have a community that is heard but also to provide outreach to the people that are not capable as others. Having one solidified union, having inside competition eradicated will definitely help in improving the quality of community and the quality of communication,” Skorus said.
