Contrary to reports from a local publication yesterday alleging that two bodies were exhumed at Task Mine only a single body was unearthed.

Task Mining Syndicate (Pvt) Ltd Chairman Timothy Masviba said that only one body was recovered contrary to Media reports alleging otherwise.

“Only one body was exhumed, we are yet to recover the rest,” said Masviba.

The body of Shingai Gwatidzo was laid to rest at Borgan Villa resettlement area in Mhondoro on Sunday.

Five artisanal small scale miners were trapped underground on the 8th of September 2020 when the mine shaft they were working on collapsed. There is no hope of finding any one of the four remaining, alive as it has been over 50 days since the dreadful accident.

Currently, there are reports that the rescuers downed tools and are demanding they be compensated monetarily before they resume searching for the four remaining miners underground.

Financing of the whole rescue mission is proving to be a tall order as the miners have to ensure the miners’ families who have camped at the mine are fed. The families at once numbered over a hundred a number which has now dwindled. Other expenses include PPE’s, rescuers allowances, coffins, transportation of final resting places and much more.

Task Mining Syndicate Chairman has since appealed for assistance from well-wishers for the rescue team and feeding the families no matter how small is welcome. Well-wishers can get in touch with the Task Mining Syndicate Chairman Mr. Timothy Masviba on +263 78 650 1026.
