Zimplats has appointed Dr Stanley Segula as its new Chief Executive Officer, replacing long-serving CEO Alexander Mhembere, who will retire from the position on 1 November 2026 after 19 years at the helm.
The platinum producer announced on Friday that Segula’s appointment follows a structured succession process, with Mhembere stepping down as CEO and executive director but retaining his position as Chairman of Zimbabwe Platinum Mines (Private) Limited.
Segula brings more than 30 years of experience across the mining value chain. He joined the Implats Group in April 2008 and has served as Managing Director of Zimbabwe Platinum Mines since November 2015.
He has played a key role in advancing mechanisation, innovation and operational efficiency at the company. His qualifications include a PhD in Strategic Management and Leadership, an MBA and a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Mining Engineering.
Mhembere leaves after nearly two decades during which Zimplats expanded its underground mining operations, processing capacity and renewable energy investments, while strengthening its contribution to Zimbabwe’s mining and beneficiation ambitions.
Zimplats Chairman Professor Sydney Mufamadi said Segula’s appointment reflected the depth of leadership talent within the company and expressed confidence in his ability to steer its next phase of growth.
Segula said his immediate priorities would be to maintain workplace safety, improve operational performance and ensure disciplined investment.
The company said the leadership transition would be supported by a structured handover to maintain continuity in its strategy and stakeholder relationships.
