The donations include 600 bags of 50 kg cement, weighing a combined 30 tonnes, more than 20,000 bricks, desks and chairs, laptops, a smart television, projectors and a perimeter fence.

At St Theresa Primary School in Kamativi, Hwange District, 350 bags of cement were delivered to support the construction of an Early Childhood Development (ECD) classroom block. Another 250 bags went to Maanziasiya School in Binga District, where building materials will be used to construct an administration block and a teachers’ cottage.

Maanziasiya School is a newly established annex of Tinde Primary School intended to improve access to education for children in surrounding villages.

Tinde Ward Councillor Mathema said children from Manziasiya village previously faced difficulties accessing education because the nearest school was approximately seven kilometres away.

“Children from Manzasya village were facing challenges attending school. The nearest school, Tinde Primary, is approximately 7 kilometres away, a distance that is unbearable for 5-year-old ECD learners to walk,” Mathema said.

He commended KMC for supporting school renovations and helping establish the school to bring education closer to the community.

Maanziasiya School received 90 desks and chairs, while primary school learners in Kamativi received another 95 desks and chairs to improve classroom conditions.

Kamativi Secondary School also received a perimeter fence and ICT equipment, including laptops, a smart television and projectors, extending the support beyond construction materials to include learning resources and school security infrastructure.

The projects address different needs across the two districts, from additional classroom space and teachers’ accommodation to furniture and technology intended to support teaching and learning.

For communities around Kamativi, the construction of an ECD classroom block is intended to strengthen early learning facilities, while the support to Maanziasiya School addresses the challenge of distance faced by younger children in accessing education.

The donations form part of KMC’s corporate social responsibility activities and its environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments in communities surrounding its operations.
